A Video Platform That Owns Its Own Servers

Most GDPR-compliant video platforms are GDPR-compliant on paper because of where a third-party cloud region sits. Streamio's pitch is different, and unusually direct about it: Rackfish AB, the company behind Streamio, is itself an internet infrastructure operator, and its own site states plainly:

We are a Swedish-owned company that owns its own server facilities in Stockholm and Uppsala. We do not use foreign cloud providers. We are a real internet operator that controls traffic and its logging itself.

And, on the same page:

No personal data is processed in third countries.

That is a stronger and more specific claim than most competitors make, including some that market themselves on European hosting while quietly running on AWS or Azure underneath, as Vainu and movingimage do.

The One Caveat on an Otherwise Clean Claim

The same GDPR page notes that the Swedish, no-third-country CDN applies specifically "for our customers who operate mainly in Sweden and the Nordic region," where the sub-processor is Swedish and based near Rackfish's own office at Uppsala Castle. That phrasing leaves open whether a customer serving viewers well outside the Nordics is routed through a different CDN arrangement; nothing on the page says so explicitly, but it is the one place the claim is scoped rather than stated as universal.

The Company

Rackfish AB, Swedish organisation number 556614-3243, registered at Uppsala Castle, 75237 Uppsala. Rackfish acquired Streamio and also sells general web hosting, domains and server infrastructure, which is consistent with the "we own our own infrastructure" claim, since infrastructure is the company's core business, not an add-on.

The privacy policy sets out a fairly standard controller/data-subject-rights structure and names the Swedish Data Protection Authority as regulator, but does not publish a standalone DPA document or a named sub-processor list beyond the CDN reference above; the marketing page instead points to a "Standard Swedish Agreement for Personal Data" from the TechSverige/IT and Telecom Companies industry body as the contractual basis, available on request rather than at a public URL.

Pricing

Streamio publishes plan tiers on its pricing page, with custom storage and traffic available outside the standard tiers, but the exact current price points were not independently confirmed at time of writing; check streamio.com's own pricing page for current figures.

Where It Fits

Against Vimeo, Streamio's argument is infrastructure ownership rather than feature breadth: fewer bells and whistles, but a materially different (and independently verifiable in the company's own copy) hosting story. See also VIMP and movingimage in video hosting.
