The Company, and Who Actually Controls It

Teamwork Crew Limited, incorporated in Ireland, registered number 313652, registered office Teamwork Campus 1, Park House, Blackpool Retail Park, Blackpool, Cork, T23 F902. Founded by Peter Coppinger and Daniel Mackey in 2007, it stayed bootstrapped and profitable for fourteen years before taking its first outside money.

That first investment, in 2021, was $70 million from Bregal Milestone, a growth-equity firm headquartered in London. London is a non-EU jurisdiction under this site's own convention: the UK holds an EU adequacy decision but is a third country under GDPR, and the same distinction that puts EmailOctopus and Dotdigital in the NON_EU bucket applies here to the controlling investor. Combined with the fact that Teamwork.com's own privacy notice confirms a Teamwork.com corporate entity exists in the United States ("our staff in the EU, EEA or UK share limited information with Teamwork.com in the United States"), this listing is rated EU_HQ_FOREIGN_PARENT: the operating company is genuinely Irish, but neither its controlling investor nor its full group structure is confined to the EU. Bregal Milestone's exact ownership stake, majority or minority, is not publicly disclosed.

Hosting Is Split Between the EU and the US, and Teamwork.com Says So Plainly

The privacy notice is unusually direct about this:

The Teamwork.com Data Processing Agreement includes the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as the mechanism to transfer data from the EU to the US. Certain elements of our services are hosted in the United States and in the EU, and your data may be transferred to the United States... There is no adequacy decision in place in respect of the US.

That last sentence, naming the exact legal gap the SCCs are there to cover, is more candour than most vendors on this site offer. A full DPA including the annexed Standard Contractual Clauses is published at a stable URL. What isn't published is a named sub-processor list.

Where It Fits

Against Asana directly: Teamwork.com wins on billing, budgeting and client-facing features built specifically for services businesses, and loses on the breadth of use cases Asana covers outside that niche. The ownership and hosting picture here is genuinely mixed, Irish operating company, London investor, real US infrastructure, honestly disclosed, which makes it a fair rather than a clean sovereignty story.
